Public Speaking - Karen L. Cox, PhD

Public Speaking

I am regularly asked to speak on the topic of Confederate memory and memorialization, much of it based my two award-winning books:  Dixie’s Daughters: The United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Preservation of Confederate Culture (reissued in 2019) and No Common Ground: Confederate Monuments and the Ongoing Fight for Racial Justice (2021).

I have also given talks on the South in American popular culture from the 19th century to the present, taking the audience on a tour of literature, advertising, popular music, movies, heritage tourism, and even reality television.

I’ve been a distinguished lecturer for the Organization of American Historians for several years and engage my audience by being personable, injecting humor when appropriate, and providing material in a way that is accessible to everyone.

If you’d like a talk on a specific topic or want a talk tailored to your needs, let me know.
